On the Road Again

What’s so exciting about Wal-mart?  Aside from my love/hate relationship with the store, I’ve discovered I can save more money there than I realized when we’re RVing. Last night we stayed overnight in Mooresville, NC in a Wal-mart parking lot. It was convenient for Terry to run in for OJ to go with our breakfast/dinner 🙂 and we also received a good night’s rest. Not all Wal-marts allow you to overnight in their parking lot due to city ordinances but if you go to their website, you will see it is corporate policy to make it available where permitted. It’s a win/win for everyone!

I know there are several free places to boon dock (overnighting without amenities) and we’ve only begun experimenting in this area.  There are some places such as federal lands where you are permitted to stay for longer than one night.  Businesses who allow it provide the overnight freebie as a 1 night layover. The benefits for travelers staying in a business parking lot are the site is free, a secure well lit area and it’s convenient to replenish supplies.  The benefits for businesses are building good will with the public and making sales.  Not a bad trade off.

Will we do it again?  Why not?  Our RV is self-contained so we have all the necessities plus  it saves us an average of $25 a night. Whoo Hoo!

As of tonight we arrived at Country Oaks Campgrounds, Kingsland, GA (a little over an hour from Travis & his family) where we plan to call ‘home’ the next few months. (With the exception of Thanksmas)  Here we have electricity, water,  sewer hook up and free wi-fi!  Now those things may seem important but the best part was coming back & seeing people we hadn’t seen for a while.  I guess the old saying, “Home is where your heart is” rings true.  It doesn’t matter whether we are in a ‘sticks & bricks’ in Ohio or rolling along the highways down south, what matters is knowing wherever we are, it will be home because of the wonderful people God has so graciously placed in our lives.

“I thank my God for all the memories I have of you.”
